Privacy Policy

Hawthorn Wiki (hawthorn.wiki) is an independent, fan-run reference site for the game Hawthorn. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by NEARstudios.

We do not operate user accounts and we do not ask for personal information to read this site. Three categories of data may be processed:

• Server logs. Like almost every website, the hosting layer records standard request information such as IP address, user agent, timestamp and the page requested. This is used for security and aggregate traffic statistics, not to build profiles.
• Browser-local tool data. The Co-op Role Planner and Progress Checklist save your ticks in your browser’s local storage. That data never leaves your device and is not sent to us.
• Usage analytics. We load Google Analytics 4 on every page — see below for what it sets and how to opt out.

We use Google Analytics 4 (gtag.js, measurement ID G-Z16ZJJDGYF) to understand which guides are useful and where visitors get stuck. It is loaded after the page renders, so it never blocks content.

Concretely, Google Analytics may:

• Set first-party cookies (typically _ga and related identifiers) to distinguish returning visitors.
• Record the page you viewed, how you arrived, approximate region derived from your IP address, and browser or device type.
• Report that data to Google, which acts as our processor. No advertising features or cross-site tracking are enabled, and we do not combine it with anything that identifies you by name.

You can opt out at any time, with no effect on how the site works:

• Use your browser’s blocking tools or an extension such as uBlock Origin.
• Install Google’s own Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
• Block the domain googletagmanager.com in your browser or DNS settings.

We run no advertising trackers — no ad networks, remarketing pixels or data brokers. If that ever changes, this page will be updated first.

Third-party sites you reach through our outbound links — Steam, the official Hawthorn site, Discord, Kickstarter and others — have their own policies, which we do not control.

Hawthorn is a family-friendly game and some readers will be children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, and the site is designed so that no personal information is required to use it.

We hold no accounts and no personally identifying records, so there is usually nothing for us to retrieve or delete. Analytics data is aggregated and we cannot identify an individual from it. If you have a privacy request, or you believe we hold data about you, contact privacy@hawthorn.wiki and we will respond.

For questions about the game itself, including data collected by Hawthorn or its playtests, refer to NEARstudios’ own privacy notice on the official site.

If this policy changes materially, the update will be reflected on this page with a new review date. Questions go to the contact page.
