Fishing is confirmed as a core activity and almost entirely undocumented. This page gives you the confirmed facts and a short checklist to run in your first session — rather than a fish list we would have to make up.

Short answer
Can you fish in Hawthorn?
Yes — fishing is confirmed. It appears in the official description and on Steam as part of the “harvest, fish and farm” loop.
But no details have been published: no tackle item, no fishing spots, no fish species, and no interaction with seasons or weather. This page documents the gap honestly and tells you what to check yourself.
Six questions define everything a fishing guide would need. All are open:
If you have access to a current build, these six checks take about ten minutes and answer most of the above for yourself. Run them in order:
Even with no mechanics published, fishing is worth planning around for one structural reason: it is one of only three confirmed gathering pillars. A village that runs on farming alone is exposed to the watering cost and to seasonal pressure on plants.
That is a hedge, not a strategy — until NEARstudios publishes catch rates or yields, there is no correct amount of fishing. But if you are choosing where to build, being near water serves both farming and fishing, which is a cheap decision now and an expensive one to reverse later.
See Village Building for siting, and Resources for what is confirmed about gathering in general.
